How to plan the perfect Party...

Create the guest list and send invitations.

On the invitation, you need this information: Type of party (cocktail, dinner etc)
 Start and ending times, adults only or if children are ok, and what do the guest need to bring.
On your evites, make sure to make the list public, so all can have an idea of attendance.

Set the Mood:

Holiday decorations can be lights, evergreens, poinsettias, or other ideas.
Use scents like vanilla, cinnamon, pine or your favorite. Use the fire place.

Plan and prepare the food and beverages.

You can create a signature drink so your party can be remembered. Set food and beverages on tables through out the home so that all can sample.
Shop and complete prep work ahead of time.

Arrange seating and surfaces

Get the party started with music.

Toast to the party.  Make sure to thank all the guest for coming and that they are special.

Party Favors:  Never let your guest leave empty-handed. A small back of candy, chocolates, baked goods, or even a gingerbread man will make them smile.

 Have guest bring a holiday-themed glassware for their drinks.
Ask guest to bring a favorite holiday cookie or bottle of wine to share.

Most of all have fun, laughter and lots of hugs.

Seeing the Light

Electric ighting was installed in the White House in 1891.  President Benjamin Harrison and
wife refused to operate the switches because they feared being shocked and left the operation of the electric lights to domestic staff.
This is according to William Seale's book  The President's House (Harry N. Abrams, 1986)
The Texas Governor's Mansion got electricity about 9 years later, when Governor Joseph D. Sayers was in office.

Hall of Fame Cowgirl

October 31 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dale Evans. She was born Frances Octavia Smith in Uvalde, Texas.
She might be best known as the wife and co-star of singing cowboy Roy Rogers, but she did have a fledgling career in show business long before she met him. Rogers was her 4th husband
She had eloped at 14. The two starred in four movies together before they married on New Year's Eve 1947.
 The Roy Rogers show held a 7 year run, making them one of the most popular husband-wife team in American history.  She wrote the show's theme song, "Happy Trails."  She is in the
National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in ForthWorth  and has 3 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She died 2/7/2001 and is buried in Apple Valley, California.
